Got Milk, FAIL!

The Olsen sisters are famous for their talent in Hollywood, they started acting at a very young age in the famous show Full House. A few years ago they endorsed the "got milk" advertisement and it turned out to be a success until rumors started spreading about Mary-Kate Olsen and her anorexia issues. It was later confirmed to be true and the "got milk" endorsement turned out to be a fail. This is another reason people should start thinking about what they see on television because it's all fake, scripted and manipulative to the audience. As media consumers we all need to be aware of what the media is telling us and if there are any subliminal messages being stated. We are the ones that give the media the views and ratings so we should be careful of what we're spending our money on. I think that before celebrities start telling us what to do or buy, that we should let them fix themselves up before they look dumb in reality. This affected Mary-Kate's reputation because the media knew about the "got milk" commercial and when everyone found out about her being anorexic that made her look like a hypocrite, because while she's telling us to be healthy, Mary-Kate herself isn't taking care of herself.

Justin Bieber and Proactiv?

Justin Bieber is every girls dream, when Justin endorsed this product, he was sixteen years old. At that age teenagers are going through puberty and when they see acne on their face, it makes them feel insecure and ugly. So when a hottie like Justin Bieber is telling everyone to use ProActiv, people will listen to him and use it because he is telling everyone that it works. Justin Bieber gets paid for endorsing this product and I'm sure he made millions, because he made this product look really appealing. Justin used his talent and took advantage of his fans and friends. When he made the commercial for this product, he barely had any acne so it didn't seem that convincing. ProActiv has had dozens of celebrities like Jessica Simpson, Katy Perry, Avril Levine and many more to endorse this product, they also made thousands of dollars. From what I have seen, Justin is the youngest celebrity to promote this product, and since it is mostly for teenagers, the people thought that by showing someone our age using it, we would too. We have to be careful not to get manipulated by celebrities like Justin because it is a waste of our money and it makes us become like them.

Facebook

Facebook is also another source that celebrities use to get their word around. Facebook is a world wide phenomenon and almost everyone has it. People depend on Facebook to put pictures up, update statuses and promote themselves worldwide. This is exactly like another twitter but more interactive, celebrities have fan pages and whoever liked their fan page, they get updates from it. Updates are usually about what the celebrity is promoting and advertising on the side. I think that celebrities get more known on Facebook than any other resource because it is very powerful and one of the largest social networks world wide. Celebrities like Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Selena Gomez etc. promote what they're wearing or eating on Facebook. When people see these posts, it makes them want to do what they're doing because they're just so popular. Almost everyone has Facebook, and they have connections with other people and that makes them dependable on other people to promote these advertisements and send them around.

Twitter and Celebrities

Twitter is the place to go if you want to make money. Not only do celebrities get over a million followers but they also encourage them to buy products which is also known as celebrity endorsements. Celebrities promote products on twitter because they know that their followers are reading their tweets. Some celebrities also tweet back to followers that say they will buy their product and that encourages other people to do so because they think that that celebrity might tweet them back. Celebrities endorse products on twitter because everyone can have access to it and pass the messages on so more people can know about it. People like Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Ashton Kucher, Snoop Dog etc are known to tweet about products. Before we go around tweeting celebrities that endorse products, we need to realize that buying what they are trying to promote benefits them and if the product fails on us then it will be our fault being brainwashed from them.

Media Manipulation - Celebrity Endorsements

Many celebrity's advertise different kinds of products all over the world. People should be informed about all the power the media has and what precautions they should take as media consumers. Celebrities have the most control of what people want to buy because everyone else wants to be like them. I believe that celebrities take advantage of their fans and use their power to make money. Celebrity endorsements are what keeps products for men and women available.

People need realize that just because a celebrity uses some kind of product doesn't mean they need it as well. You can't trust these advertisements because half of them are never true. When people buy products that celebrities advertise, it mostly benefits that celebrity because they are the ones that are making the money. People only want to buy these products because a celebrity has it, they need to know that they're wasting their money and not taking care of themselves.

People are wasting their money on random products because they can't be trusted, the celebrity only cares for them self and wants money. People have to be cautious of what they are spending their money on because it is never worth it half the time. Celebrities lie on television and on advertisements, all the information they're saying is scripted. Their job is to say what ever is on the screen because that is what they get paid for. Teenagers mostly get affected by the false advertisements because when we tend to see someone famous, we want to become like them, so if that person has it then we also need it. In high school teenagers mostly want to fit in and be "cool." If they tell others that what they have is because they saw "this person" promoting it on TV, then everyone would want to own it too.

Some celebrity endorsements can be really amusing to watch because what they are trying to promote can be very ironic. Celebrities make products more appealing to people because it puts the wow factor in the product, and you start to think that if so and so has it, then it must be worth it.
This is one of the 3 reasons why I think that the media can be manipulative. The media is manipulating everyone because it has all this power that gets thrown to us. The media is very wise when it comes to finding a target audience, being persuasive and using celebrities to make money. Media manipulation is not new to anyone but people should start doing something about it because it affects us, we are the consumers and it is our money they are taking. Money isn't even the whole problem, the media has control of changing our view about something.

Even though my message of media manipulation is about celebrity endorsements, I want to talk about this picture I found on the internet. This is a powerful picture that shows and tells us how the media can change our mind on things like this. The left picture makes our mind believe that there is an innocent man that has a gun to his head, the right picture shows us a soldier trying to help someone and the center picture is the truth. The media has control of our mind and that is what makes us very judgmental.
